Facebook Tip: Add a Tab With Custom HTML To Your Page or Profile

Recently a client asked if there was a way to add some custom HTML to a Facebook “Page”.  I did a little research and found the My Info application and some handy instructions for adding it to your page, rather than your profile. Go to the main About/Help page for My Profile Box: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=62088208022 Click on Add to Page (instead of Go to Application) Choose the business page you want to add it to and then click Add to Page See the image below:   The result is that you can add custom html to your page, and make it a “tab”.  The downside is that the tab is called “My Info”. If you know of any Facebook Apps that have more functionality like this, or any other techniques, please share in the...

What Features Are Essential for Small Business and Nonprofit Organization Websites

Recently Acquia solicited some feedback from us about what kind of features we though would be useful to small businesses for their upcoming product, code named “Acquia Gardens”. When I visit a business’s website there are generally 3 things I am looking for: Their Location Their Hours of Operation Contact Information If a website doesn’t provide that information, than in most cases I’d say it fails. Beyond that what else should a small business, or small non profit website offer? About: Information about the business or organization, and then also bios or profiles of the key people or staff, like the founder of the company, who are they, their story, and a picture. Offering: What products or services do they offer? A description of each, possibly a picture, and link to examples of these in their portfolio (see below) Portfolio: Examples of their work, or successes, or ongoing projects. This could be complimented with or supplanted by testimonials. News Room: articles and accolades, and/or links to them, along with the ability to attach a scanned copy....
