Penguin Day: Calendar applications

So as i mentioned in my initial reflections on the conference, calendaring was a hot topic of discussion.

These seem to be the three calendaring applications that folks were talking about.

[lk:Upcoming.org] (i love it, and think that there are so many applications for using it more, think dynamic blog calendars, tagging events to pull rss feeds into focused websites for seniors or kids etc…) I was pushing upcoming hard, and covered it in my speed geeking session.

LighteningBug the system developed for http://counterconvention.org (more than just calendaring) the big bonus feature of Lightening Bug is that it allows for complete moderation by a community of moderators so that moderating tasks do not get hung up in process if someone is not checking their email. No item showed up on the counterconvention site without being approved by a moderator

Cross Wise ([l:http://xwise.org|XWise.org]) a system that Tor de Vries is developING that allows for communities to have a calendar or groups within a community to share a calendar and also allows for permitted users to analyse what kinds of events are happening and when so that groups can work to avoid scheduling similar events against each other.

I am of the opinion (as was [l:http://www.backspace.com/notes|John Goldberg] (i think this is a link to his blog)) that these 3 applications (i would add: along with civic space event finder) need to work together in some way.

Lightening bug could be a way to add events into an upcoming metro, or a specific feed/account.

Cross wise could be a means to analyze an upcoming feed, and the analysis could be driven by the use of tags on events.

I have about a 10 minute presentatino and discusiion with Tor de Vries about Cross Wise and upcoming.org with danile Gillmor from teh lightening bug development team. So click to listen.

[l:files/crosswise.mp3]

Again sorry about the background noise. I ahve to get a little les shameful about thristing the mic in people's faces.

Also this one was recorded direct to the laptop with my sony mic using [lk:http://audacity.sourceforge.net/|audacity]

Attachment

Size

crosswise.mp3

1.52 MB
