College graduates can't read

<p>What is out nation coming to? There has been alot of press in the last year about how we are not procuding enough engineers. Overwhelming numbers of college students are pursuing Liberal Arts studies rather than math science and engineering. Well, this week brough [l:http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=57739|news] of another alarming trend: sinking adult literacy numbers, including among college graduates!</p>
<p>in 1992 only 41 percent (or something like that) of college graduates were reading at levels commensurate with their education. Today the number is 30%. Last night's [l:http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032619/|Nbc Nightly news] said that this means that 70% of college grads have trouble understanding the editorial page or comprehending novels.</p>
<p>So we are graduating Liberal Arts majors who can't read. We are truly in trouble.</p>
